Puregold Hakot Relay Draws Over 4,500 Runners in Cavite!

Puregold’s signature “hakot” spirit reached a new milestone in Cavite as the Puregold Hakot Relay South Luzon leg brought more than 4,500 runners to Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus for a high-energy celebration of running, teamwork, competition, and the Filipino spirit of panalo. The South Luzon leg of the nationwide Hakot Relay series also marked the launch of Puregold’s first-ever 8K Individual Challenge, giving solo runners a new way to test their endurance and push their personal limits.

Around 500 runners took on the full 8-kilometer course, tackling the challenge entirely on their own before crossing the finish line. The new format added another dimension to the Hakot Relay experience, proving that the event is not only about team competition but also about personal achievement.

The distinction between the two race formats was clear.

In the signature Hakot Relay, runners formed teams and worked together as they navigated the course while collecting grocery items along the way. Strategy, coordination, and teamwork were key as participants raced to complete their challenge and make it to the finish line.

The new 8K Individual Challenge, meanwhile, put the spotlight entirely on the individual runner. Participants tackled the longer 8-kilometer distance on their own, testing their stamina and determination from start to finish.

“We wanted to offer runners a fresh and enjoyable way to challenge themselves, with the ‘hakot’ mechanic adding a playful and uniquely Puregold twist to the race. Being part of the running community is meaningful to us, and it is a privilege for Puregold to bring people together for a shared panalo experience,” said Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, Puregold Senior Marketing Manager.

The event kicked off with a pre-race warm-up before participants headed to the starting line to take on their respective courses within the prescribed cut-off times. After completing their races, participants collected their race-day rewards and explored sampling booths featuring participating brands. Sponsor-led stage activities and an awarding ceremony capped the celebration.

But what made the Hakot Relay particularly distinctive was the reward waiting at the finish line. Participants in the team Hakot Relay went home with a Grocery Sling Bag and a Finisher’s Grocery Bag. For the solo 8K runners, Puregold added an extra surprise: finishers had the chance to roll home their groceries in a finisher’s grocery cart wagon. It was a fitting reward for a race built around the idea of hakot—run the course, complete the challenge, and bring home something useful.

“We’re always looking for ways to level up the Hakot Relay and give Filipinos something new to look forward to,” Piedad said. “This year, this meant introducing our first-ever 8K challenge and bringing the experience to an even bigger scale.” With more than 4,500 runners participating as either team relay competitors or solo 8K challengers, the South Luzon leg expanded the scale of the Hakot Relay while staying true to the event’s playful concept.

More than just a running event, the Cavite leg brought together runners, families, friends, brands, and communities for a shared experience centered on movement and camaraderie. And at the heart of it all was Puregold’s signature promise: race to the finish line and go home with groceries, too. The South Luzon leg demonstrated how the Hakot Relay continues to evolve while maintaining the concept that made it stand out in the first place. With the addition of the 8K Individual Challenge, runners now have another way to experience the hakot spirit—whether through teamwork or an individual test of endurance.
