Puregold is taking its popular Hakot Relay to a new level with the introduction of its first-ever 8KM Individual Challenge, adding a solo endurance category to the nationwide running series. The much-awaited Southern Luzon leg will take place on September 19 at Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus City, Cavite, marking the latest expansion of the event after its successful debut drew thousands of participants.
Unlike traditional running events focused solely on speed, Hakot Relay puts a distinctly Filipino spin on the race. Teams must complete the hakot portion before making their way to the finish line, where participants are rewarded with medals and generous grocery hauls.
The unique concept quickly became popular among families, friends and running communities, establishing Hakot Relay as an event built around both competition and community.
A new challenge for solo runners
The Southern Luzon edition introduces the 8KM Individual Challenge, designed for qualified runners looking for a more demanding test of endurance.
While the traditional Hakot Relay emphasizes teamwork, strategy and coordination, the new individual category puts the spotlight on personal athletic performance while retaining the rewarding finish that has become synonymous with the event.
With the two categories happening on the same day, runners can choose between taking on the course as a team or challenging themselves individually.
For Puregold Senior Marketing Manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, the new category reflects the brand’s commitment to evolving the event alongside its growing community.
“The response to Hakot Relay has encouraged us to keep innovating with every edition,” Hayagan-Piedad said. “This is our first Southern Luzon leg, and we want to introduce an exciting challenge while staying true to the experience that runners have come to know and enjoy.”
She added that Puregold hopes the 8KM Individual Challenge will give more participants an opportunity to test their limits while remaining part of the panalo spirit that defines Hakot Relay.
More rewards at the finish line
Every registered runner will receive a customized race kit containing an event singlet, race bib and finisher’s medal.
Hakot Relay participants will also receive a Grocery Sling Bag and Finisher’s Grocery Bag, adding to the event’s signature grocery-themed rewards.
Meanwhile, finishers of the new 8KM Individual Challenge will receive a Finisher’s Grocery Cart along with other exclusive prizes.
The addition of the individual category represents the biggest evolution of Hakot Relay since its debut, expanding the ways runners can participate while preserving the teamwork, community spirit and rewarding experience that made the event popular.
Whether runners choose to conquer the course with teammates or go solo for the 8KM challenge, the Southern Luzon leg promises a day of running, competition and the signature Puregold hakot experience.
