Charo Santos-Concio Joins Filipino Animated Series Sun Chaser

Award-winning actress Charo Santos-Concio joins the highly anticipated Filipino animated fantasy series Sun Chaser, lending her voice to the groundbreaking project set to premiere its pilot episode for free on YouTube on June 23 at 12:00 PM.

Produced by Manila-based studios Toon City Animation and Playlab, Sun Chaser represents a major achievement for the local animation industry. It is a creator-owned series conceived, developed, and produced entirely in the Philippines, while showcasing Filipino mythology to audiences around the world.

Charo is part of an impressive cast of Filipino and Filipino-American talents, including Manny Jacinto, Liza Soberano, Eugene Cordero, Dingdong Dantes, Zia Dantes, J.R. De Guzman, and Star Magic artists AC Bonifacio and KD Estrada.

The fantasy adventure centers on Jordan Santos (voiced by Manny Jacinto), a typical teenager who travels to the Philippines expecting a peaceful summer break. Instead, he finds himself caught in a battle against a growing supernatural threat that throws his island home into turmoil. As ancient forces awaken and hidden family secrets emerge, Jordan learns that he is destined to become the protector of the fragile boundary between the human and spirit realms.

At its heart, Sun Chaser explores themes of self-discovery, family, courage, and finding one’s purpose in the face of extraordinary challenges.

The series was created by acclaimed Filipino animators Bobby Pontillas and Bernard Badion. Pontillas, a veteran of Disney Animation, has contributed to celebrated films such as Zootopia, Moana, Big Hero 6, and Wreck-It Ralph. He also earned an Academy Award nomination for the animated short film One Small Step in 2018. Badion, meanwhile, has worked on projects for major Hollywood studios, including Transformers: EarthSpark.

Even before its public debut, Sun Chaser has garnered international acclaim, winning the Animation du Monde Prize at Annecy/MIFA 2025—one of the animation industry’s most prestigious showcases for emerging projects and independent animated series.

Filipino audiences can watch the pilot episode for free on YouTube starting June 23 at noon. Coinciding with the premiere, the creators will also launch a Kickstarter campaign to support the production of future episodes as they work toward completing and releasing the series’ full first season worldwide.
