The Philippines is making its mark on the international television stage as “Love at First Spike,” the 2025 iWant youth-oriented original series, earns a nomination at the 2026 International Emmy Awards. The series is the sole entry representing the Philippines in this year’s ceremony, receiving a nod in the Kids: Live Action category. It will compete alongside programs from Chile, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
The awards gala is set to take place in New York on November 23, 2026 (Monday, U.S. time).
Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, “Love at First Spike” is an eight-episode iWant original starring Emilio Daez, Reign Parani, and Sean Tristan. The series follows a former basketball team captain whose life takes an unexpected turn after a violent incident, eventually finding a new sense of purpose when he joins a boys’ volleyball team composed largely of proud LGBTQIA+ students.
Beyond its coming-of-age and sports elements, the series explores themes of acceptance, gender equality, friendship, identity, and the challenges faced by student-athletes. Its story places particular focus on the importance of finding a supportive community while navigating the pressures and expectations that come with youth, sports, and personal identity.
The International Emmy recognition further puts the spotlight on the growing range of Filipino stories being told for younger audiences, particularly stories that tackle relevant social themes through accessible and entertaining narratives.
For those who want to experience the series, all eight episodes of “Love at First Spike” are available to watch for free on iWant.
