There are times when a food crawl leads you to a spot that instantly feels like a core memory in the making. On our recent trip to Davao City, that spot was Café Gervacios (often affectionately called Café Gervacio). Nestled away from the usual frantic rush, walking into this space feels less like entering a commercial coffee shop and more like stepping into a refined, European-inspired sanctuary right in the heart of Poblacion. Here I am with Rodel, Duane and Ruth.

What initially caught our attention was the stunning ambiance—elegant, warm, and thoughtfully designed. But as any seasoned traveler knows, a beautiful space only gets you through the door; it’s the menu that makes you want to stay. And let me tell you, the kitchen and bakery here are executing at an incredibly high level.

We kicked things off with their Cheeseburger, and it’s a masterclass in classic execution: a remarkably juicy beef patty, perfectly melted cheese, and a soft, pillowy bun that holds everything together without getting soggy.

Also I ordered Corned Beef.

If you want something uniquely local but elevated, Gerry’s Longganisa Toast is an absolute must-order. It takes the comforting flavors of traditional Filipino longganisa and translates it into an elegant, open-faced toast concept reminiscent of an Eggs Benedict. It’s clever, savory, and brilliant.

For a fresh, vibrant contrast, the Green Goddess Quinoa Salad delivered a beautiful crunch. It’s clean, bright, and surprisingly filling, offering the perfect palate cleanser between the richer plates.
The drinks here are just as carefully curated as the food. The Salted Caramel Latte balances smooth espresso with a sharp, buttery sweetness and just the right hint of salt.
If you are looking for something more adventurous, the Ube Matcha is a fascinating pairing that absolutely works—the deep, earthy notes of premium matcha play incredibly well with the mellow, creamy sweetness of homegrown ube.

The Pastry Display You Can’t Ignore
As a homegrown bakery that has evolved into a premier café, their laminated pastries and desserts are non-negotiable.
-
Tiramisu Croissant: Impeccably flaky layers that shatter beautifully upon impact, encasing a rich, coffee-soaked cream.
-
Mocha Caramel Latte Cake: Dense, decadent, and a dream for anyone who loves the bittersweet complexity of coffee and burnt sugar.

-
Matchagatto: A wonderful, green-tea twist on the classic affogato that feels like a reward at the end of the meal.
-
Le Petit Durian: A beautiful nod to Davao’s regional pride. It handles the notorious King of Fruits with immense finesse, capturing that distinct, creamy tropical flavor in a delicate, sophisticated pastry format.
Ofcourse we took home some, like this one!
