Lea Salonga is set to make history as the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, adding another milestone to her remarkable international career.
The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles announced on August 14 that Salonga will be honored with a star in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category, recognizing her outstanding contributions to live performance.
A Tony and Olivier Award-winning artist, Salonga has built a celebrated career spanning Broadway, film, television, music, and the concert stage. Her groundbreaking portrayal of Kim in Miss Saigon made her an international star, while her work as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan further introduced her talent to audiences worldwide.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame officially named Salonga among its Class of 2026 honorees in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category.
Her star ceremony is expected to take place in early September 2026, coinciding with the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), which will run from September 3 to 6 in Los Angeles.
The celebration will continue on September 6, when Salonga will receive the MIFF Icon Award during the festival’s Closing Night Gala at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. MIFF has described her as a trailblazer whose career has helped open doors for Filipino and Asian artists around the world.
For Filipinos, Salonga’s Hollywood Walk of Fame honor represents more than another award. It is a historic recognition of a performer whose decades-long career has brought Filipino talent to some of the world’s biggest stages.
From Broadway to Hollywood and the global concert stage, Lea Salonga continues to make Philippine history.
