Alright, let’s talk about ‘My Love Will Make You Disappear‘ starring Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino. I didn’t like it. Because liking it is an understatement. I love it! Honestly, I walked in expecting the usual rom-com fluff, you know, the kind you half-watch while scrolling on your phone. But nope, this one actually held my attention. And that’s saying something, because I’ve seen my fair share of predictable plots. Look, I know this film got pushed back, and yeah, I was worried the demand might’ve died down. But honestly? It was worth every minute of the wait!
First off, the movie is about Sari (Kim Chiu), a woman who believes she is cursed, as every man she falls in love with mysteriously disappears and Jolo (Paulo Avelino), a troubled landlord dealing with a failing apartment complex and financial difficulties. The film’s core conflict arises when their paths cross as they work to prevent the displacement of their community. As Sari and Jolo grow closer, Sari’s fear of her “curse” threatens their budding romance.
It was an enjoyable film, there wasn’t a single dull moment. Seriously, the pacing was spot-on. I was very happy with Melai’s narration already so I know I am off to a good start. They knew exactly when to throw in a laugh, a tear, or a good dose of kilig. And speaking of kilig, it wasn’t the cheesy, over-the-top kind. It felt real, like you were watching two people genuinely connect. and the sexual tension is undeniable! It was a mature kind of plot giving realistic vibe from within!
Okay, so, that kilig they were going for? It wasn’t the usual, cringey stuff. It felt…honest. Like you were peeking in on two people actually hitting it off, you know? And Paulo Avelino’s smile? Dude. Seriously. It’s like a shot of pure happiness. Every time he grinned, the whole room just got brighter. He’s got this natural thing, this “I’m having a good time, and so are you” vibe that’s totally magnetic. I want more screentimee! I want more of this abs! Abs? Yes, I want to count them LOL.
Kim, though? She just nails the drama. Like, you feel what her character’s feeling. It wasn’t just acting, it was like she was living it. You weren’t watching a performance, you were watching a person go through it. I have seen a lot of Kim Chiu’s movie from different loveteam and what I can say is that she gets comfortable with how she delivers emotional scenes. I guess I have memorized her variations.
Look, yeah, the story’s simple. But, come on, love stories are timeless for a reason, right? They did something with it, though. They made it feel new, and that’s down to the way Kim and Paulo clicked. Their chemistry just jumped off the screen. And that never ending kiss at the end, was magical! Kimberly! And can I say I got that big smile when a cameo from one of my favorite PBB loveteams appeared! Yes, JM and Fyang in the house looking all lovely!
Okay, if I had to nitpick, some of the side story conflict felt a bit rushed, it bothers me at some point. Why is Cookie keeps missing LOL. And I don’t know if its the newport cinema that is dimmed so I was counting on brightness. Some shots made them seem like they hadn’t slept, but that could just be me. But honestly, that’s a minor gripe. The overall experience was just so enjoyable. You leave the cinema with a smile on your face, and isn’t that what a good movie is supposed to do? Plus, no hard sell product placement in there! Good job! Though I noticed the noodle brand, KEEMPAW. Kainessss! hahaah!
Bottom line? If you’re looking for a feel-good film that’ll make you laugh, cry, and maybe even believe in love a little more, give this one a shot. You won’t regret it. “My Love Will Make You Disappear” is now playing in theaters!
