Voicemails for Isabelle Review: A Heartfelt Netflix Romance That Surprised Me

There are movies that surprise you when you least expect it, and Voicemails for Isabelle on Netflix is definitely one of them. I finally got the time even in this busy week! I honestly went in not knowing much about it, but that’s Nick Robinson right there.

What I loved most is how the movie handled death. Years ago, films with this kind of premise would usually spend so much time dwelling on grief that they became emotionally exhausting. Thankfully, Voicemails for Isabelle doesn’t go that route. It acknowledges the pain but chooses to celebrate life, love, and the people we leave behind. This is the kind of movie that I like that’s emotional without being heavy, and heartfelt without feeling overly dramatic.

Maybe not new but i like this plot. Its like piecing together someone’s life and emotions through a series of voicemails is such a simple yet beautiful idea, and the movie executes it really well. Every voicemail reveals something new and keep him close to her, making it easy to stay invested until the very end.

If I had one small criticism, it’s that I found myself wondering exactly what illness Isabelle’s sister was battling. Unless I completely missed it, I don’t remember the film clearly explaining it. It didn’t take away from the emotional impact, but I think having a little more context about her condition would have made some of the family feelings and emotions resonate even more. Or not, I am totally fine with it haha!

Both Nick Robinson and Zoey Deutch are wonderful here. Nick has that quiet sincerity that I’ve always loved. Watching him instantly brought me back to Love, Simon, one of my favorite coming-of-age romances. I loved that movie so much that I even bought the book Meanwhile, Zoey Deutch brings so much warmth, charisma, and emotional honesty to her role that she perfectly balances Nick’s understated performance. Their chemistry feels effortless, making every scene they share believable and easy to root for. Ofcourse the conflict is well expected and they handled it well.

As someone who’s a total sucker for Filipino romcom , I found Voicemails for Isabelle incredibly entertaining. It has that same comforting, feel-good energy that makes you want to watch it with your barkada, laugh together, get a little emotional, and leave the movie feeling lighter than when it started.

And I have to give a special shoutout to the soundtrack. This movie absolutely spoiled me with its music. Every song felt perfectly familiar and adding even more depth and personality to most of the scenes. It’s one of those soundtracks that you’ll probably end up searching for after the movie ends because they’re just that good.

**⭐ Rating: 5/5 — Highly Recommended**

If you’re browsing Netflix and looking for a romantic drama that’s funny, heartfelt, refreshingly different, and anchored by two incredibly charming performances from Nick Robinson and Zoey Deutch, Voicemails for Isabelle is an easy recommendation. It’s proof that a movie about loss doesn’t have to be emotionally draining to leave a lasting impact.
