Elijah Canlas, Emilio Daez, and JM Ibarra are set to headline Regal Entertainment’s upcoming comedy-drama One For The Road, a barkada road-trip film directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kip Oebanda. Bringing together three of the most promising actors of their generation, the film showcases Canlas, Daez, and Ibarra in roles that highlight their distinct personalities and acting strengths. Together, they portray three friends whose lives are unexpectedly changed when they embark on a journey far beyond their usual routines.
One For The Road follows four friends who decide to escape the pressures and frustrations of their working-class lives through an unforgettable road trip. What begins as a simple getaway soon turns into a series of hilarious adventures, unexpected conflicts, and deeply personal moments that test the strength of their friendship. Beneath its comedic premise, the film explores more serious themes, including grief, mental health, personal struggles, and the challenges of navigating adulthood.
Ibarra plays Garry, a fun-loving barista who uses humor to mask his frustrations and struggles. His carefree personality adds much of the film’s comedy while revealing a more vulnerable side as the journey unfolds. Canlas takes on the role of Ariel, a rising actor caught in the pressures of a showbiz love team. For Ariel, the road trip becomes an opportunity to experience a sense of freedom and discover who he is away from the spotlight and the expectations that come with fame.
Meanwhile, Daez portrays Luke, an academic achiever and bank employee who is accustomed to approaching life through logic and reason. However, the journey forces him to confront emotions and personal challenges that cannot simply be solved with an equation or rational explanation. The fourth member of the barkada, Jomar, has yet to be cast.
Behind the camera is Kip Oebanda, the acclaimed filmmaker known for films such as Bar Boys, Liway, and Balota. Oebanda co-wrote the screenplay with Victor Villanueva, the writer behind the critically acclaimed Filipino comedy Patay na si Hesus. With its mix of humor, heart, and coming-of-age themes, One For The Road aims to go beyond the traditional road-trip comedy. At its core, the film celebrates the friendships that eventually become family—and the people who remain by our side through life’s mistakes, struggles, losses, and unexpected turns.
As Garry, Ariel, Luke, and Jomar discover along the way, sometimes the most important destination is not where the road takes you, but the people you share the journey with.
