You know why I look forward to this weekend? Because tomorrow is a special day to shop! Philippine mobile money wallet provider GCash partners up with Glorietta, one of Ayala’s premier malls in Makati City, to enable QR-based mobile payments in a mall-wide sale – a first in the Philippines dubbed as #GDay!
The Glorietta Madness Sale is Glorietta’s signature mall-wide event where customers may enjoy up to 80% discount on selected stores, and features a flash hour sale and a raffle, to further offer only the best deals this holiday season. The sale is also the first to embrace QR-based payments as GCash partner merchants offer up to P500 cashback on top of their sale discounts when customers scan to pay with their GCash.
Through the scan to pay feature of the GCash App, customers can use their GCash account to pay for goods and services by simply scanning QR codes displayed by merchants and establishments. For consumers, this eliminates the hassle of bringing money, waiting for change, or getting into misunderstandings over payments. Merchants, on the other hand, would no longer need expensive machines to process mobile money transactions but only QR stickers with a unique code that is linked to their GCash wallet.
Aside from the cashback offering, GCash will also do daily raffles of P10,000 GCash to customers who will scan to pay for their purchases in partner merchants.
Glorietta is the first Ayala Mall to support QR code purchases made thru GCash. This comes after the company’s investments from Globe Telecom, the Ayala Corporation, and from Chinese payments giant Ant Financial. Alibaba Group Chairman Jack Ma also recently graced Glorietta to experience GCash’s QR code transaction.
Filipinos can join the cashless movement by downloading the GCash App for free on the App store or the Google Playstore. Once installed, they must register for an account and cash-in to over 12,000 GCash Partner Outlets nationwide to start using GCash.
Expect more #GDay events as GCash rolls out the QR code payment solution across other Ayala Malls in the country.
