All is set for the Team Philippines to compete over 100 teams from all over Asia in the 2011 Shell Eco Marathon Asia. The SEM competition will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s Sepang International Racing Circuit on July 6-9, 2011.
Team Philippines is represented by some of the most talented engineering students and professors in the country’s top universities: De La Salle University, Don Bosco Technical College, Mapua Institute of Technology, Technological Institute of the Philippines, University of the Philippines, and the University of Santo Tomas. 
The SEM is an annual platform that seeks to inspire innovation and environmental responsibility in today’s youth. Now on its second Asian leg, the SEM will once again encourage young, talented and creative Filipinos to take part in helping to develop more sustainable and efficient energy sources, and bring pride to the country.
“The Shell Eco-marathon is a major educational project that encourages innovation, reinforces conservation and fosters the development of leading technology for greater energy efficiency,” said Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) Country Chairman Edgar Chua during the launch event. He added that the SEM is part of Shell’s energy efficiency campaign to promote security of future energy supply while limiting carbon dioxide emissions. “We can only achieve this through a combination of new technology, sustainable energy sources and what we call doing things smarter, in short, smarter mobility solutions.”
