I guess it’s officially summer? Oh yes, the scorching summer sun always brings back memories, and some of them involve the tragic, watery demise of my first few phones. But things are changing now. Smartphones are made to last even if you drop or dunk them in some water situation you’re having. I can speak for experience because I’ve just gotten my hands on the brand-spankin’ new realme 14+ PRO 5G.
Let’s get straight to it! First off, let’s unbox and see the full package. You’ll find the handset itself accompanied by a SUPERVOOC charger and a USB Type-C data cable. As always, realme also includes a protective case.
Basically, let us check the specs quickly:
- Colors: Pearl White or Suede Grey.
- Battery: Large 6000mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
- Camera: Triple rear camera setup with 50MP main and telephoto lenses, plus a wide-angle lens; 32MP selfie camera with AI features.
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 5G.
- Storage: 12GB RAM and 512GB ROM.
- Display: 6.83-inch 120Hz OLED curved display with 1.5K resolution.
- Features: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, IP66/IP68/IP69 rating, military-grade shock resistance, and Android 16-based realme UI 6.0.
Okay, let’s talk about that Suede Gray. Forget your glossy, fingerprint-magnet backs. This is texture. This is class. Holding the 14+ PRO 5G feels like holding a premium piece of kit. This is actually a good fit for me; I don’t usually put cases on my phones. And being bold feels differently. It is sophisticated, and frankly, a breath of fresh air in a sea of shiny phones. It’s got that understated elegance that just works. It’s the kind of phone you can pull out in a boardroom or a chill cafe, and it’ll look right at home.
The version was up to date when I opened it.
As a fan of fast chargers and larger batteries, we can enjoy extended usage and standby time thanks to a battery that surpasses the common 5000mAh standard, offering at least 20% more capacity. This ensures fewer charging interruptions.
This realme 14 PRO+ 5G features a substantial 6000mAh battery, engineered for all-day use without requiring a recharge. I am always out when I attend events. so this is really something that I would love to bring. Remarkably, this high-capacity battery is housed within a slim profile. Users can enjoy up to 17 hours of continuous YouTube streaming, and the battery maintains 80% health even after 1,600 charge cycles. Furthermore, power-efficient components, including the processor and display, contribute to extended battery life.
The color itself is a deep, rich gray with a hint of warmth. It’s not just a flat, boring gray; it’s got depth and character.
But looks aren’t everything, right? We need substance. And realme’s throwing down the gauntlet with their “All-Around Waterproof” claim. Now, I haven’t taken it for a deep dive in the pool just yet (stay tuned for the full review!), but I did give it a good splash test. And let me tell you, it handled it like a champ. Here I am at the pool testing its IP certifications.
As Pinoy living in a tropical country where sudden downpours are the norm, this is a game-changer. No more panicking when you get caught in the rain or accidentally spill your drink. This phone is built to take it. It’s a peace of mind feature that I genuinely appreciate. Also, I am sure you have seen my initial waterdrop test for this:
Beyond the design and waterproofing, the 14+ PRO 5G feels snappy and responsive. The display is vibrant, and the camera setup looks promising (more on that in the full review, as always). But these initial impressions are all about the feel, the look, and the promise of durability.
Here’s an interesting feature of the realme 14 PRO+ 5G. It is equipped with a Triple Sony Camera System, and leverages an AI HyperRAW Algorithm to restore light and shadow detail while performing AI noise reduction directly in the RAW domain. I took some photos during the night while I was running at Ayala Avenue and will show you some initial samples. Moreover, the 50MP Sony IMX896 camera, featuring a large 1/1.56″ sensor and optical Image Stabilization (OIS), excels in low-light photography.
This is also complemented with the 8MP Sony IMX355 Wide Angle Camera and the 50MP Sony IMX882 3x Periscope Camera. What more can you ask for? Here are some of the shots:
Very happy with the photos.vYou get plenty of saturation and vibrant colors, putting it right up there with other smartphones
Aside from these impressive camera credentials, realme seems to be targeting a user who wants a phone that looks good, feels premium, and can handle the rigors of daily life. The Suede Gray Design and the All-Around Waterproofing are clear indicators of that.
So, is the realme 14+ PRO 5G worth your hard-earned cash? Based on these first impressions, it’s definitely a strong contender. The combination of premium design, camera and robust build quality is a winning formula. Stay tuned for the full review here on rodmagaru.com, where we’ll dive deeper into the performance, camera capabilities, and overall user experience. Until then, keep it real, and keep it techy!
