MASTER of Horror Films Chito Rono whips up another terrifying masterpieces as he megs Regal Entertainment Inc.’s biggest and most expensive Metro Manila filmfest entry, “Shake, Rattle & Roll Fourteen: The Invasion.”
The 14th installment in local filmdom’s highly successful horror franchise boasts of not just one but three episodes, each of which is big enough to be a full-length feature.
Direk Chito first made his mark in the industry via handling sexy movies like “Private Show ” and “Itanong Mo Sa Buwan.”
These were followed by heavy dramas such as “Nasaan Ang Puso ?”, “Narito Ang Puso Ko,” “Separada,” “Kailan Ka Magiging Akin?”, “Eskapo,” “Dahas”, “Ang Babae sa Bintana,” “Curacha Ang Babaing Walang Pahinga,” “Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa?” and“Dekada 70,” among many others.
The multi-awarded director went a notch higher when he started to invade the horror genre through movies like “Patayin Mo Sa Sindak Si Barbara” and “Spirit Warriors 1 & 2,” which were later on followed by box-office giant projects namely “Feng Shui,” “Sukob, “Tenement 2,” “Bulong” and the latest, Governor Vilma Santos-Recto’s “The Healing,” which was shown this year.
Knowing he’s a master of his craft, mother and daughter Lily and Roselle Monteverde broke Regal traditionand tapped Chito to direct all three episodes of “Shake, Rattle & Roll Fourteen: The Invasion.”
Rightfully so, because Direk Chito is tops when it comes to handling Metro Manila Film Festival entries.
He is a MMFF best director awardeeforthe entries “Nasaan Ang Puso?” (1997) and“Yamashita: Tiger’s Treasure” (2001).
This year, Chito has gathered seasoned and top notch actors for“SR&R XIV’s” triple bill.
“Pamana” is headlined by three original “Shake, Rattle & Roll 1” cast members: Herbert Bautista, Arlene Muhlach and Janice de Belen.
It is the story of a family who inherits their uncle’s comics filled with horror creatures that come to life to haunt them.
Vhong Navarro and Lovi Poe, meanwhile,star in the“Unwanted” episode, where they play victims of a tragedythat strikes a mall.
The third and last episode, “Lost Command,” on the other hand, is a tale of evil soldiers featuring Dennis Trillo, Paulo Avelino, Martin Escudero, Rommel Padilla and more.
From a simple military operation, terror strikes the Special Unit 21 when they discover the power of the so-called “berdugo” of the former Vigilante Squad, the Alsa Puwersa.
Each of the members of Special Unit 21 turn into a zombie except for its leader, Martin Barrientos, who engages the evil soldiers in one grueling battle for supremacy.
