Everyone who like coffee and brewing is welcome. A major coffee festival will be held in Makati in August, perfectly complementing the recent warm spell.
The second-floor activity area of SM Makati will host the 2023 Coffee Festival from August 1 to August 15, hosted by premium lifestyle home brand Breville Philippines, known for its portfolio of appliances that open up unlimited food and beverage options in the kitchen. A good cup of coffee can’t compete with the event’s thrilling combination of unique workshops, competitions, and product debuts to get any coffee lover’s heart pumping.
I had the opportunity to participate in two seminars last weekend that Breville Philippines was hosting as part of their effort to educate people on how to make their own brew, no matter their level of experience. The first is the “Espresso 101: Level Up Your Coffee Game” workshop, where Jose Margo Flores discussed the four-key method for brewing coffee at home as well as the necessities for your coffee home setup. Mamita Vanessa Caceres was the next speaker. At the “Brewing Creativity: Latte Art 101″ event, she discussed the fundamentals of creating latte art designs.
I learned a lot from the two speakers, especially about crafting latte art, because I was eager to improve my coffee art skills. To be honest, all I knew was that I needed to switch on my frother to make a bubble. But, thanks to Mamita’s assistance, I was able to understand the process of creating our milk foam and transforming it into artistic toppings for our favorite coffee drinks.

On August 12, Chef Ave Bayle will hold a special workshop on coffee and dessert pairing, featuring three exclusive recipes that anyone can do in their kitchens. Finally, coffee pro Dave Dource will be headlining the ‘Introduction to Specialty Coffee’ workshop on the same day where he will cover the history of coffee down to the basics of brewing espresso.
Another highlight of the event will be ‘The Coffee Wars’ competition which will bring together coffee enthusiasts who will battle by creating their original espresso-based coffee drink. The twist? They have to work on their brew using random ingredients like herbs and spices and fruits. Exciting, indeed!
The physical event will also be complemented by a special live-streaming event for those who prefer to stay at home. The live event will be all about ‘Coffee 101: Brewing Your Coffee at Home,’ and will touch base on the basics of coffee from beans selection, basic recipes, to having the best equipment to match your needs. Breville Product expert Dave Dource and coffee enthusiast Marie Field-Faith will be hosting the live event.
