Miss Philippines almost got the crown from the recently concluded MISS WORLD 2011. But it was Miss Venezuela Ivian Sarcos night as she was crowned Miss World 2011, An extravagant ceremony at the Earls Court in London, the city where the first Miss World was staged in 1951, 21-year-old Sarcos defeated over 100 beauties from various parts of the world at the 61st Miss World contest.
Miss Philippines Gwendoline Ruais was the first runner-up and Miss Puerto Rico Amanda Perez became the second runner-up. We all know that it was the great pageant year for the Philippines.
The gala event kicked off on Sunday evening with a dynamic performance by British street dance troupe Diversity, followed by the introduction of the Miss World contestants.
Miss Venezuela confidently answered and won the judges on the Question and answer portion. The women on stage believed they were embodying a different kind of feminism. “I believe that the next Miss World should be a woman of responsibility and reason,” Sarcos, who has a degree in human resources, said during the competition. “I believe the woman should be committed to the organization and help people in need. Beauty with a heart.”
FINAL 7: Miss England, Miss Korea, Miss Philippines, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Scotland, Miss South Africa and Miss Venezuela.
It ended with Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills crowning Sarcos. The jury includes former Miss World winners — Cindy Breakspeare (1976), Nigeria Agbani Darego (2001), Zhang Zilin (2007) and Kaiane Aldorino (2009).
