(REVIEW) Spoiler Alert Review for Star Cinema’s “Maria Leonora Teresa”

It was a not so good weather last friday when I watched Maria Leonora Teresa, the latest offering from Star Cinema and Wenn Deramas. Initially, I think this horror movie is promising considering Deramas is known for his Box Office credentials, such as Praybeyt Benjamin and Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy. His Maria Leonora Teresa will be second to the last movie before Star Cinema closes its Star Cinema 20th Anniversary offering.

FULL TRAILER

I like how Deramas hid the twist on the story and revealed at the end where it needs to appear before the audience eyes. The attempt to scare scenes without ghost but with a superb scoring is timely and commendable. I myself made a semi loud scream in one of the scenes there when it shows something. It got me right there.

Maria Leonora Teresa plot reminds me of Feng Shui back in 2004 from Chito Rono and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, except some scenes are not believable. Dolls were all scary and worth a bride of chucky kind of categorization. Yet, I don’t see these dolls look as the way to help lessen the pain. It should have been something beautiful and scary at night. All the time, theyre all scary.

While Jodi Sta Maria and Zanjoe Marudo did an excellent job in portraying their respective roles as people in pain, Iza Calzado exceeded my expectation.

She was excellent! she made me believe that she’s in between sad, almost crazy mother after that tragic death. I felt her pain, her agony in this movie. She’s worth the recognition in her performance here.

Maria Leonora Theresa Ending Explained

All supporting cast is fine. Except when the movie revealed who the Albularyo was. I think Joey Paras is a good actor but a total miscast in this project. I love his performance in all of his project as in ALL TV and Movie projects he did. But when Deramas put him in this role, I really wanted to walkout from the cinema house. We were altogether embracing the build up of the movie until he appeared, and everything turned to be a comedy event of the decade. I lost interest. The movie lied. It was comedy all along. I can see my peers’ dismay without telling them what’s on my mind. The kids are all alright.

 5 Favorite scenes

1. Bus Accident (The graphic passed awesomeness just like TUHOG movie)
2. Jodi, Zanjoe and Iza moments at the accident scene when they found out that all their daughters died.
3. 3 Dolls collaboration for Dante Ponce death scene.
4. The Flashback scene in school. Awesome!
5.  Opening scene, foundation in school.

Sorry not sorry, Rono remains the standard quality suspense/horror genius to date. All in ALL, the movie is entertaining. Rod Magaru Show >>>> 7/10.
