School bells may already be ringing, but JanSport made sure that summer fun wouldn’t end just yet with the JanSport Super Sized Summer race challenge. The leading backpack brand for college students took 42 teams of two to a one-of-a-kind adventure last June 10, 2012, at the SM Mall of Asia grounds. Teams scrambled through a series of wacky challenges for a shot at the Php50,000 grand prize.
“JanSport embodies a culture of fun and discovery,” say Rlyn Doroteo, Brand Associate for JanSport. “The end of summer break doesn’t mean saying goodbye to summer fun. With JanSport on your back, you’ll have the freedom to experience life’s adventures all year.”
Among the most popular challenges of the day were Big Bag Sack Race, a laughter-filled 15-meter hop inside a humongous JanSport bag to the finish line; and the Liter Mug Challenge, in which participants tried to beat the heat by drinking an entire 1.5-liter bottle of cola through a straw. And a giant inflatable obstacle course tested their physical endurance, while a spot-the-difference wall required sharp eyes and quick wits.
At the end of the day, all the teams tested their mettle but three teams emerged the best; finishing with the fastest time, therefore taking home super-sized cash prizes. Fermarrio Espano and Andriel Andres completed the challenges in 43.15 minutes, netting them 3rd place and Php20,000 pesos. Second-placers Regi Lavina and Angelo Castaneda were just a couple of minutes ahead of them, with their 41.50-minute time earning them Php30,000. First-placers Michael and Mark Que blew away the competition with a 37.10-minute mark, taking home the Php50,000 grand prize.
The dynamic duos weren’t the only winners that afternoon; lucky raffle entries gave their owners an assortment of JanSport bags and eyewear, Bratpack Nalgene bottles, and Bratpack gift certificates.
Like any great summer party, the afternoon was filled with live entertainment. 5 Minutes rocked the stage, while De La Salle University’s LSDC-Street wowed audiences with their dance moves. Pedicab closed out the show with a bang, capping off one of the year’s most fun-filled afternoons yet. The festivities were made possible with the amazing support of SM By-the-Bay.
