THEY WILL KILL YOU Review: A Bloody Good Time That Doesn’t Take Itself Seriously

If you’re looking for a horror movie that will make you question life, humanity, or the meaning of existence, They Will Kill You isn’t that movie. And honestly, that’s exactly why I had so much fun watching it.

Streaming now on HBO Max, They Will Kill You reminded me of the chaotic energy that made Ready or Not such an enjoyable ride. It’s packed with outrageous kills, over-the-top violence, and the kind of dark humor that had me laughing at scenes where I probably shouldn’t be laughing. The movie knows exactly what it is—a gloriously bloody popcorn flick designed to entertain.

What surprised me most was how often it felt like those campy Filipino horror-comedy films I grew up watching. You know the type: a scary situation suddenly turns absurd, someone makes a ridiculous decision, and before you know it, you’re laughing while people are getting chased or dismembered. They Will Kill You captures that same spirit, only with a much bigger budget and a lot more gore.

The action never slows down. Every time I thought the film had already reached peak insanity, it somehow found a way to raise the stakes. The body count keeps climbing, the kills become more creative, and the tension is balanced with enough humor to prevent the movie from becoming too heavy.

The cast fully commits to the madness, and that’s what makes it work. Nobody seems embarrassed by the material. Instead, they embrace the ridiculousness, allowing viewers to simply sit back and enjoy the ride.

My advice? Don’t overanalyze it. Don’t look for deep social commentary or award-worthy drama. They Will Kill You is here to entertain, shock, and make you laugh while covering the screen in blood. Sometimes that’s all a horror movie needs to do.

If you enjoyed Ready or Not, love horror-comedies, miss the playful energy of classic Filipino horror flicks, and appreciate creative gore, then They Will Kill You deserves a spot on your watchlist.

Rating: 3.5/5

A gory, action-packed, and surprisingly funny horror ride that understands the value of simply having fun.
