Philippine Medical Education Aligned with India’s NMC

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has officially confirmed that all CHED-accredited medical schools in the Philippines are fully compliant with the latest standards set by India’s National Medical Commission (NMC). This is a game-changing development for Indian students pursuing medicine abroad.

Dr. Gunasekar Ariyamuthu, President and CEO of FENCE Education Consultancy Inc., has been at the forefront of this progress for over a decade. Under his leadership, FENCE has worked tirelessly to align Philippine medical education with Indian regulatory standards, ensuring that Indian students can confidently pursue an MD degree in the Philippines.

Currently, 21 medical colleges and universities across different regions of the Philippines, all recognized by the NMC, are actively accepting Indian medical students. According to Dr. Gunasekar Ariyamuthu, this nationwide reach ensures greater access, regional options, and consistent academic quality.
Highlights of the Philippine MD program include:
  • •54 months of academic instruction + 12 months of internship;
  • •Early clinical exposure and limited roles before licensure;
  • •Full practice rights in the Philippines after the PLE;
  • •MD degree recognized in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and more;
  • •Equal qualifications for Indian and Filipino students.
Dr. Gunasekar Ariyamuthu also noted the broader benefits: “This is not just educational; it’s economic and cultural. It brings opportunity, builds bridges, and raises the global profile of Philippine medical education.”

With increasing numbers of Indian students arriving each year, the economic contribution through education and tourism is significant. For over 10 years, Dr. Ariyumuthu and FENCE have partnered with Strikers Travel Corp. to design student-friendly travel and living arrangements, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and balanced stay throughout their studies.
This milestone also boosts the international trust index of the Philippines as a top destination for medical training in English.
“As always,” says Dr. Gunasekar Ariyamuthu, “FENCE remains committed to guiding Indian students with compliance, compassion, and a deep understanding of both educational systems.
