(ADVOCACY) Earth Hour 2017 Set to March 25, SM Mall of Asia Complex

Environment have always been my favorite advocacy despite me being involved in various projects such as Save The Children, CARE, UNICEF and World Food Program. That’s why when I received the invitation for the upcoming Earth Hour 2017 through World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), I didn’t have any second thought of confirming. As Earth Hour and WWF campaigns for everyone to switch-off and shine a light on climate action, there’s a greater meaning of the activity by just turning the lights off for an hour.

WWF National Ambassador Marc Nelson and Mikee Cojuangco introduced some energetic, passionate members of the WWF National Youth Council headed by Chairperson Alexa Cancio. They were the one who led the launch of this year’s Earth Hour celebration. earth hour 2017 wwf official

So on March March 25, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, Earth’s most iconic landmarks will once more switch-off their lights for Earth Hour 2017. Earth Hour Philippines’ main switch-off event shall be held at SM by the Bay, Mall of Asia Complex from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM on March 25, Saturday night. This year, there will be an Earth Hour Camp starting at 4:00PM that will feature interactive climate adaptation and mitigation booths, specifically, native tree planting, renewable energy technologies, and disaster go-bag preparation.EH Poster

I am happy that the youth of today are now religiously involve in advocacies that focus on Environment, Biodiversity and renewable energy. And a large focus of #EarthHourPH2017 will be on galvanizing the youth to be the climate leaders of tomorrow.

During the event this afternoon, I took a selfie with WWF Mascot CHICHI.

I remember during college I joined some related projects headed by former Senator with her Luntiang Pilipinas Project that aims to plant trees and preserve forests by replenishing destroyed trees every once in a while.  So this year, members of the WWF National Youth Council will lead the Earth Hour Camp while two new WWF Youth Ambassadors will be introduced along with the official WWF-Philippines song. “While the theme of Earth Hour remains at Shining a Light on Climate Action, we took to heart the role of the youth as the key to further propel the country into a climate-resilient one. We continue to engage and encourage the public to emphasize that together, we thrive,” says WWF-Philippines President and CEO Joel Palma.
