(PROFILE) Meet Sylvia Sanchez and Arjo Atayde, Equally Talented Mother and Son!

Finally met another newbie but excellent actor Arjo Atayde, currently one of the remarkable casts in ABSCBN’s afternoon action-drama series DUGONG BUHAY with her equally effective and versatile actress, her mother, Sylvia Sanchez last Sunday at Luxent Hotel over a humble merienda. I have always been enthusiastic to meet and interview (at the very least) some versatile actors of today and glad that Arjo and Sylvia are very inclined to answer all of my questions.

Before I started to pull my recorder, I have heard that they cant wait to be in one series or a project that will test their versatility. Arjo jokingly said, “Lalumunin ko si Mommy sa aktingan” laughs. Well The idea is actually interesting. Having Sylvia Sanchez and Arjo Atayde in one great scene. I cant wait to see that on Television.

Arjo Atayde has a resemblance with John Lloyd Cruz in terms of looks. As I was able to ask him if he saw JLC’s works and projects and he said John Lloyd is one of the actors he admired. Asked if pressured of being compared to his very effective actress mom, “Hindi naman po nacocompare. Wala naming comparison so far?

Who are your mentors in terms of acting? AA: Nonie buencamino, Lito Pimentel, Of course si Mommy.

Other genre you want to try? AA: Hosting. Im interested in hosting. Right now Im enjoying acting. And If I were to choose between action or drama. I choose Drama. Why? I think its my forte.

Sylvia Sanchez and Arjo Atayde

What kind of mother is Sylvia? Si Mom, Chill lang. Chill na nanay. She taught me how to manage my time. Natutunan ko lahat yun from the time I started acting.

He also mentioned he admire Alex Gonzaga and Kim Chiu. Then afterwards, Sylvia sat beside me and we started to talk as if we knew each other for quite sometime. I feel so at ease with her. Imagine the contrabida in my nightmare back in Esperanza days, now sharing her life to me and to the rest openly. She mentioned that her role (Aling Teresita from Be care with my heart) was so close and alike. except in a sense that she gets angry while Aling Teresita is so forgiving.

Been asking these questions to a lot of people I talked before, Someone’s Dream Role. “Ay Bulag pipi at bingi” she said. She giggly responded with, “What will I gonna do with a character that has limitation? That is something I wanna do in the future.”

Asked if she missed being the villain, she said yes! “Pero nakaka drain maging kontrabida kasi intense masyado.” she continued.

FAMILY

She also shared the importance of the family. Every sunday, they make it a point to be together, to have dinner together, shares stories together. They dedicated sunday to be the family day. “it’s our family time. I won’t accommodate any taping on Sunday’s unless its really important.” she said.

Who is your Idol/inspiration? She answered Cherie Gil, “Ay ang galing, sya ung nananampal; sya ung inaayawan ng mga tao,” she said.

She said she patterned her career on Cherie Gil’s stardom.

I admire these family. Not everyone in the industry has these kind of ties these days.

Catch Arjo Atayde on Dugong Buhay on Kapamilya GOLD and Ms. Sylvia Sanchez on the phenomenal Be Careful With My Heart and Apoy Sa Dagat on Primetime Bida.
