Movie Review: TOWER HEIST

I can’t help but do this movie review. We just got off about an hour ago from the advance screening at Glorietta sponsored by Solar Entertainment Corpoation and all I want is to share some thoughts.  The movie, Tower Heist has an enormous cast full of some great comedic talents and the most importantly, with Eddie Murphy on the cast? Man It was like heck of a riot film! Seeing Murphy in some of bad projects he did like those in Imagine That and Norbit, I really believe that this will be an emancipation of my perpective towards him.

Starring: Ben Stiller, Casey Affleck, Eddie Murphy.

Tower Heist is a 2011 crime comedy film directed by Brett Ratner and written by Ted Griffin and Jeff Nathanson based on a story by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Griffin. It was released on November 2, 2011 in the United Kingdom, with a United States release following two days later. Tower Heist follows Josh (Ben Stiller), Charlie (Casey Affleck), Dev’reaux (Michael Peña), and Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe), employees of an exclusive apartment building who lose their pensions in the Ponzi scheme of Wall Street businessman Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda). The group enlist the aid of criminal Slide (Eddie Murphy) and bankrupt businessman Mr. Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick) to break into Shaw’s apartment and steal back their money while avoiding the special agent in charge of his case, Claire Denham (Téa Leoni).

Queens native Josh Kovacs has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected. In the swankiest unit atop Josh’s building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors. The hardest hit among those he defrauded? The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage. With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh’s crew turns to petty crook Slide to plan the nearly impossible…to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur’s guarded condo. Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone. Turns out they’ve been casing the place for years, they just didn’t know it.

Tower Heist is really funny and amusing this year.  It is just such a crowd pleaser that will pretty much get everyone laughing there butt of twenty to thirty times.  The story is sustaining and you will feel a little heart within why Josh is doing the idea. Ben Stiller is still my favorite , he’s kind of taking a back seat here he is more of the straight guy and I liked him here and we still see his funny comedy.  I am a huge Matthew Brodrick fan and it’s fastidious to see him rebound after being in so many terrible films such as Deck the Halls. Then there is Michael Pena who I never really thought was a good comedy actor but he had me laughing a lot. Most importantly, Eddy Murphy is back on track! Here in this film is the main funny man and he is hilarious in the film! We see him back to full funnyman form like he was in the late 80’s and it’s such a joy to see! Murphy is not the only creating laughs here.

It was a smoothly engineered crowd pleaser. I realized that if it were a series, I might be taking a leave and do the marathon of it. The scenes are all in its height of suspense and fun! I don’t know what will happen. Very entertaining!

There are also a lot of surprises here. Casey Affleck had some good jokes and really did a different type of film then the gritty movies like Gone Baby Gone. Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe who was in the dark and grim Precious has some comedic skills. Her career is young but I hope she does more films like this. Finally we have Tea Leoni who I have really never found funny but she creates some good laughs.

Im still in awe believe me! It creates a lot of laughs, but also gives us an engaging heist that has quite a bit of twist and turns that you could not guess from the trailer. Though there’s one part in the film (I might be to critical on this) that made me think. A car made of solid gold would have weighted vastly around 2000 pounds. But anyway. Most comedies really undermine the story but this film truly tries to make a good heist and it works.

Overall, Tower Heist is one of the film I recommend you see on Thanksgiving with the family! A MUST SEE!
