So I went to Cebu again! This time, to experience one of the best native specialty cuisine in town. Together with my fellow blogger friends from different niche, this particular #RodTrips I had was indeed short but sweet. I’m going straight to the point here now since most of you are waiting to share my experience about the talk of the month in Social Media, the ultimate SUTUKIL Experience.
We went to the Seafood City Located at the Grand Convention in Cebu City. Let me give you a tour first of this cozy Seafood heaven:
The launch that saturday night was indeed one of the happiest launches I attended outside Metro Manila. We had Jericho Rosales and Mylene Dizon with us for the ultimate SUTUKIL cook-off where all of the food inspired by the philosophy of “SUTUKIL” were served to us. All of the table had a taste of all the food they cooked that night, we also served as the judges both for Jericho (Team Yellow) and Mylene (Team Blue).
They were very game that night and we, as spectators did nothing but to eat. Here is Jericho Rosales cheering as he was the first one to finish that delicious kilawin!
For starters, the word “SUTUKIL” is a conventional style of cooking rooted from the Visayan culture. It is a combination of three words, which means three different types of cooking, particularly with fresh seafood. “Su” came from the word “sugba,” which means, “to grill”. “Tu” is branched from the word “tuwa,” which means, “to stew”. This style is similar to the “tinola,” wherein you simmer your choice of seafood in broth, then add your leafy veggies. Lastly, the most adventurous style is “Kil,” which stands for “kilaw”. It’s basically like eating salad, only that you eat fresh fish or shrimp that is soaked in vinegar.
Complain no more here are some of Jericho Rosales’ finish product!
Here is 101 Restaurant City Inc President, Winglip Chang with Mylene Dizon and Chef.
Sutukil is pretty much a straightforward method of cooking that has become famous in the Queen City of the South.
