If you think CINEMALAYA is over, think again. Quantum Films, Martinez-Rivera Films and Straight Shooters Media partnered with the most successful film outfit in the country, Star Cinema to distribute the Box Office film of this years’ CINEMALAYA, Ang Babae Sa Septik Tank in over 40 theaters nationwide starting August 3!
A very entertaining presscon was held last weekend at the Dolphy Theater for the release of the said film. Marlon Rivera, the Director of Ang Babae Sa Septik Tank said that the film was created intentionally for Eugene Domingo.
Ang Babae sa Septic Tank stars Eugene Domingo who won the Best Actress at the 7th Cinemalaya International Film festival! This comedy cum-paordy which pokes fun over independent film-making won five major awards (five Balangay Trophies) last July 24 at the CCP. Aside from the Domingo’s Best Actress, it also borught home Best Director for Marlon Rivera, Best screenplay for Chris Martinez, (who directed the blockbuster Here Comes the Bride and scriptwriter of Kimmy Dora), Audience choice award and the much-coveted Best Film Award. Ang Babae sa Septic Tank also stars Cai Cortez (My Amnesia Girl, Maximus and Minimus), JM de Guzman (Mula sa Puso, My Amnesia Girl), and Kean Cipriano (Calalily’s lead vocalist).
Eugene Domingo or as close peers call her ‘Uge’ acknowledged the entire Cinemalaya team, her co-stars for the very pleasant surprise “napaka-gandang birthday gift ito! During her acceptance speech last awards night.
The story of Septik Tank is a comedy that traces where ambitions sometimes lead to. It chronicles a day in the life of a trio of misguided film-makers when they decided to produce a movie they assure has a caliber to earn…an Oscar. (Yes! An Oscar!) In short Ang Babae sa Septic Tank becomes a laugh trip art romanticizing a certain reality in Pinoy culture-here its poverty-that may be minimized but could never be eliminated.
Ang Babae sa Septic Tank is one of the many blockbusters of Eugene Domingo where her talent is always on display but with different dimensions and shades-and thus reflect her versatility at characterizations. May she be playing leads or support roles. Ang Babae sa Septic Tank is another testimony to Uge’s on-screen comedic power.
