So I got introduced to Betzeeplay, the first Piso Serye platform in the Philippines, during The Blue Print by Globe, the quarterly media event of Globe where they introduce fresh innovations to consumers. With Beetzee Play, GlobeOne users can access seamless streaming, convenient top-ups, and Globe Rewards integration all in one place. No need to download a separate app or sign up to another platform.
So here I am catching this newly released film entitled Naked Truth. A shocking tale of four lives intertwined by scandal. “The Naked Truth” is a bold new film from director Ritchie Balza Roño.
Written by Lawrence Nicodemus, the movie dives headfirst into a web of deceit, starring Paolo Gumabao, Monina Lawrence, Christian Vasquez, and Lienel Navidad.
I binged all 49 episodes of Naked Truth in under two hours, and I have to say, this show is just fine. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger that’s sometimes so intense it borders on the unbelievable, but it’s what keeps you glued to the screen. The series is definitely mature and provocative, and the production quality is surprisingly impressive. My only minor gripe is the vertical format, which could really use a full-screen option to remove the Beetzee Play link for a truly immersive experience.
The first nine episodes are free, and you can unlock the rest for just one peso per episode—a steal at 41 pesos for the entire series.
The plot jumps right into the thick of it, driven by a cast of characters all locked in a fierce power struggle. We’re introduced to Arnold, a ruthless executive producer who, as played convincingly by Christian Vasquez, seems to hold everyone’s fate in his hands. He’s a morally gray figure where nothing comes without a price.
His world collides with Mia, an ambitious reporter who sees her career as her entire identity. I really appreciated how the show portrays her as laser-focused and with no time for distractions—it felt like a realistic take on the high-stakes media industry.
This struggle is further complicated by Katrina, her former protégé who has become her fiercest rival, willing to take shortcuts that Mia would never consider. Then there’s Billy, a mysterious character who lives outside the spotlight but is at the center of hidden desires. Paolo Gumabao does a solid job in the role, playing a character who “sells fantasy for a price,” adding a layer of hidden transactions to the narrative.
For Mia’s character, I found it a little amusing how an ambitious go-getter like her, who clearly knows her worth, still gets caught up with a guy. It seems a bit out of sync with her laser-focused personality. On the other hand, the cinematic texture of Billy’s house felt a little off, especially considering his supposed struggles as a middle-class character. It looked a bit too polished for someone who is meant to be in a less privileged situation. Also, the Katrina-Mia petty quarrel is serving camp. But I have to give it to the steamy scenes—well executed.
I think the Naked Truth does an excellent job of exploring how these characters grapple with their own personal demons. While the storyline itself isn’t entirely new, it’s forgivable because the show justifies the characters’ actions by the end. Make no mistake, this is steamy content, but whether you find something more to it is entirely up to you.
Beetzee Play is pushing boundaries with its vertical cinema format, and it’s a development I welcome. Naked Truth is a great start for them, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they produce next. I just hope TikTok users don’t ruin it by screen-recording for piracy.
