Star Cinema's Rewind is Breaking Box Office Results

As of today, December 30, 2023, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the MMFF executive committee haven’t officially released the latest box office numbers for the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival. Here’s what I know so far:

- First day: Though official figures haven’t been disclosed, there were reports of a significant increase in ticket sales compared to the first day of MMFF 2022.
- Second day: “Rewind,” starring Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, reportedly saw a substantial spike in its box office earnings, nearly doubling its revenue from the opening day. However, specific figures weren’t announced.

Reasons for not disclosing figures: The MMFF committee aims to promote equal viewing opportunities for all entries and avoid encouraging viewers to favor specific films based on box office numbers.
As I have tweeted, Rewind crossed the 100 million mark on December 27 (103 million). This is based on various sources I collected.

As an avid MMFF fan over the past decade, I believe box office results are information worth knowing other than the awards night results. So I collected all the information from various sources. As of yesterday, I’ve heard that Star Cinema’s Rewind breached the 200 million mark, surpassing Vice Ganda‘s Partner’s in crime gross last year. By the rate Rewind is going, it is going to surpass the 2022 Philippine techno-horror film Deleter by tomorrow, December 31.

Rewind’s total gross as of December 29 is P215,000,000.00, based on information I have collected from various sources. Unofficial ranking after Rewind is Mallari, followed by Family of Two, Gomburza, and Firefly which are gladly adding more cinemas following the awards night results.

As of 1pm today, SM North Edsa announced that the Rewind screening was sold out until the 7 p.m. show. As the weekend approaches, it will continue to be stronger than previous days.
