The Philippine film industry is marking another milestone as Filipino filmmakers Arvin Belarmino and Noel Escondo represent the country at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.
Belarmino and Escondo’s 7-minute short film ‘Nakaw’ was chosen to be showcased together with 3 other Filipino Short Films (Ayo-Ayo by Reena Dunque, Blood and Ink (Dugo at Tinta) by Jill Damatac and Love Remembers by Ralston Jover) at the festival based in Cannes, France. The film tells the story of a boy and a series of life-changing events he triggers when he steals a purse.
Through the help of friends and various film patrons, the filmmakers behind Nakaw are able to gather funds to support their Cannes contingent. Among their sponsors are Quezon City Government, Embassy of France to the Philippines, Instituto Cervantes De Manila, Statement Productions, Got Heart Foundation, The Idea First Company, Smart Communications, Rau Atelier De Manila, R2Buds Nails Spa, Chemworld Fragrance Factory, Getz Bros. Philippines, Ripple Events and Aqueous Entertainment.
‘Nakaw’ officially premiered at the Instituto Cervantes de Manila’s Pelikula: 15th Spanish Film Festival last October 22. The film stars Kristofer King, Frank Ferguson, Angelo Gammad, Duke San Juan and Sheika Aljunaibi.
