PREVIOUS BLACK SATURDAY OPENER
Last 2016, ABSCBN released one of the longest movies in Philippine Cinema starring Charo Santos Concio in “Ang Babaeng Humayo”. We didn’t expect revolutionary ticket receipts from the film as it targets a specific market.
Last 2015, Star Cinema then release a romantic comedy movie starring Coco Martin and Toni Gonzaga on Black saturday and earned 25 Million pesos despite a strong competition with Fast and Furious Franchise.
It was 2014 when Star Cinema released Vhong Navarro and Solenn Heussaff’s comedy movie DA POSSESSED. The movie earned more than 120 Million in total. 2013 when It takes A Man and A Woman starring John Lloyd Cruz & Sarah Geronimo.
The movie reportedly earned 32 Million on its first day and earned a total of 400 Million Pesos at the end of its commercial run while last 2012 Viva Films’ Moron 5 and the Crying Ladies starring John Lapuz, Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, Marvin Agustin, Martin Escudero and DJ Durano it earned roughly 65Million on its entire run.
If you remember it was 2011 when Star Cinema and M-ZET gambled to release a black saturday movie starring Vic Sotto and Bea Alonzo in Pak Pak My Dr Kwak. It was the year I remember the day when a local movie earned enough paying audience to go to the mall to watch a movie. The movie earned 72 Million.
This year, Star Cinema gambled again to the country’s premier loveteam, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo to open Black Saturday versus two huge film opener, Fast and The Furious 8 and The Boss Baby. And the tandem didn’t disappoint, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo broke another Box Office records as the highest opening gross for Black Saturday of all Time after the movie sealed a 33 MILLION OPENING finished at the end of the day.
