I’ve seen KABISERA during its premiere night, days before the official opening of the 42nd Metro Manila Festival. Produced by Firestarters Productions and Silver Story Entertainment, KABISERA is a drama movie about family, social injustice and fighting for rights and equality. KABISERA is composed of an ensemble and powerful cast starring Superstar Nora Aunor, Ricky Davao, JC De Vera, Jason Abalos, Ces Quesada, Victor Neri, Perla Bautista, Ronwaldo Martin and Rj Agustin.
Let’s watch the FULL trailer.
While many didn’t like the premise and its entirety, I give the entire team a hand by braving the script tackling sociopolitical drama, with a timely and relevant issues in Philippine politics. The premise is obviously dragging until the end but maintained its poise to be the movie drama to remember.
I cannot say that La Aunor is at her best in her performance in Kabisera. Somehow, I don’t see any difference from the characters she portrayed in her previous films. But I admire her for giving some scenes to supporting actors when it deemed necessary.
I don’t like the way they patterned the role of Ces Quesada to a popular political figure. For me it ruined the intention of just tackling the issue in general. Jason Abalos is working on his craft and I liked how he pulled his character beyond expectation. First time to see RJ Agustin and he had me at one point there in a scene with Nora Aunor where he broke down. It is the only surreal gap I think that moved me.
Overall I liked the movie. It takes guts and courage by Florido and San Agustin to pursue a relevant story into a greater heights and submitted to a larger audience. I would love to see their next project and what premise they will present to us, with improvements.
Rod Magaru rates KABISERA 8/10.
