(LONG WEEKEND) FIVE TRADITIONS To Start With Family This Lenten Break

As the Lenten Season rolls around, take advantage of the momentary break by spending time with family and starting new traditions. Family bonding doesn’t have to break the bank, either, thanks to simple but memorable activities that are more meaningful when done with loved ones. Here are five new traditions you can start with your family this week.

  1. Take Visita Iglesia out of town

Combine religious tradition with adventure by going out of town for the annual Visita Iglesia. Nearby provinces like Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite have a wealth of history in their many churches (especially Taal Town and Liliw, Laguna), and it will be an experience the whole family will enjoy while reflecting on the Holy Week.

  1. Start a family scrapbooking tradition

Ditch digital albums for the real deal and print photos out for the whole family to compile in an album. Look back on important milestones from the past year and reflect on what things you’re grateful for. Your future selves will thank you for saving mementos from the past.

  1. Garden together

Staying home this week? Go outdoors for a change. Start a pocket garden in whatever outdoor space you have. You can buy small herbs and hardy garden plants like Santan, Calamansi, and the like—even you don’t have a green thumb, these plants are pretty low-key and can withstand most weather situations.

  1. Have a values-laden movie marathon

Instead of watching the usual cartoons and TV series, opt for classic movies that espouse good family values. ABS-CBN TVplus’ Kapamilya Box Office (KBO), which is now open to all networks, offers a roster of new and classic movies that the whole family will enjoy, especially during the Lenten Holiday.  Screening during the long weekend are “Unexpectedly Yours,”  “Seven Sundays,” “Northern Lights: A Journey to Love,”  and “In My Life.”  Catch these movies available from March 29 to April 1 for only P30. Just register by texting KBO30 MAR29 [BOX ID] and send to 2366

  1. Prepare a simple feast at home with the whole family for Easter

Forego the usual lunch and dinner out on weekends by preparing a simple but special meal at home for the whole family on Sunday. Invite the grandparents and cousins over, and have everyone prepare their own special dish (even if it’s just a simple bread-and-palaman-combo) to make it a family affair. After all, meals are better when celebrated together!
