I remember three years ago, I was invited to the big launch of Uniqlo here in the Philippines. Uniqlo opened its first store on June 15, 2012, at the SM Mall of Asia, with a second branch at the country’s second largest shopping mall, the SM City North EDSA, soon after.
Last night, May 28, 2015, Uniqlo announced the best three years of the brand here in the Philippines and how grateful they are in the warm welcome the Filipino consumers showed them. Katsumi Kubota of Fast Retailing Philippines Inc welcomed the crowd with endless thank yous on the stage.
The event was hosted by Joyce Pring.
This year, they are launching a campaign, and inviting everyone to unveil creative streak and participate in the global label’s “UT You Talk.” campaign and get a chance to be featured on Uniqlo’s LED billboard on EDSA. Tonight, they also launch and introduce Yeng Constantino and Alex Gonzaga as the new ambassadors of UT You Talk. In this campaign, consumers were given the chance to make powerful statements about their personal style in their own creative ways. Here I am with Alex and Yeng.
The star of the campaign is, of course, the UT shirt, whose philosophy is: A UT is more than just a T-shirt. It’s an expression of who you are. Where you’ve been, what you love. And with hundreds of limited-edition T-shirts to choose from each year, you’ll always find one that says exactly what you feel.
I was able to talk to the Pinoy Dream Academy champion Yeng Constantino, who is constantly an epitome of expressing herself through her songs from the very start and she shares how excited she was when she got the call that Uniqlo is interested to get her as Ambassador. “I was really surprised! Kase ako fan talaga ako ng Uniqlo ever since and there was a time nga na di ba nung una wala pang Uniqlo here and nung naglaunch sila nakikita ko sila Bianca Gonzales. Hindi ko talaga inexpectand ngayon sobrang happy ako.”
When I asked her about why she loves Uniqlo, she answered me straightly, “Quality. As in natry ko na yung ibang brand and Uniqlo is really made of high quality fabric. Yung iba nga sinusuot ko na sa shows, sa ASAP. Kase sobrang ok talaga sya.”
UNIQLO is the leading apparel brand in the world that has always been true to its vision of making clothes that are made for all, going beyond age, gender, occupation, ethnicity and all other ways that define people. Its clothes are simple yet essential and universal that consumers can freely combine to create their own style.
Just like Yeng Constantino, Alex Gonzaga is very excited to be a part of the Uniqlo family. She said that “Uniqlo is really swak on my personality kase we can express ourselves. This campaign is really close to our heart”
Uniqlo also collaborates with home-grown brand Jollibee to express one’s happiness via a T-shirt that declares Joy Fits All. These collaboration shirts will be available in all UNIQLO stores starting June 1.Aside from Jollibee, San Miguel Beer shirts will also be available to the market soon.
