Its finallyt here! “RCS 7” marks a special milestone for the vocal septet, The Ryan Cayabyab Singers. Composed of outstanding soloists, handpicked by the country’s favorite Maestro Ryan Cayabyab to represent his impeccable artistry and stellar sound, the RCS celebrates the group’s fifth year in the music industry on July 7, Saturday, at the Music Museum in Greenhills.
This commemorative show retraces RCS’ roots to 07/07/07, when it was first formed. Its unconventional presentation veers away from cookie-cutter, song-and-spiel musical shows by interweaving the disparate elements of live performance, singing, movement, drama and multimedia in this unique “pop concert with a theater bent.” As such, this will showcase the RCS, not only as top-rate singers but also as all-around performers.
The concert is written and directed by Rito Asilo, who began his theater career in the 1995 staging of Mr. C’s musical, “Alikabok.” With musical direction by Mr. Cayabyab himself, leading a band of topnotch musicians, this truly promises an unparalleled experience. Mr. C’s former mentee from 14K, Jolina Magdangal, will also join the group in a classic song number.
The RCS, together with Mr. C, have been championing anti-poverty campaigns such as Gawad Kalinga (GK). Their involvement in this organization has been a big part of their journey. Accordingly, a percentage of this concert’s proceeds will go to GK projects that include, but are not limited to, physical structures and workshops that aim to foster music appreciation and encourage Original Pilipino Music in communities.
