I got a text message from a blogger/friend asking me why he’s not getting any tweets from me on his timeline. then followed by an SMS that says a news twitter account was hacked. It was then he forwarded me a snapshot of it and found out that it was GMANEWS ONLINE who got hacked.

But This morning they apologize for the tweets. They gained control over their account again. Oh well..

Heres some simple advice I got from http://www.ehow.com/how_5186773_keep-twitter-account-being-hacked.html
Make your passwords almost impossible/hard to guess. Dont use passwords like your birth date or home address. Use passwords that are long. Use a password that is longer than 6 letters or numbers. Try using passwords with numbers and words. If you are able to, use upper case and lower case letters in your passwords. For instance try something like this XTl39rr5Yy which is harder to guess. The harder you make your password, the harder it will be for someone to gain access to your Twitter account.

Even on the Twitter.com page, they tell you to make your password at least 6 characters.

2
Write down your passwords in a safe place. When I write my passwords down, I always put X’s in the place where I don’t want anyone to guess the password who may live with me or get a hold of my password. For instance if my password is beans494202. I would write down as a reminder something like this bxxxxxx.

DONT put all your passwords on your computer in a file because if a hacker gets into your system, it is all over. They have access to everything.

3
Don’t make all your passwords the same for everything you sign up for online. If you used your primary email address to sign up with Twitter and the same password for your email, go and change it right away. It is best to get another email account to use for Twitter. Sign up for an email account with Gmail or Yahoo.

4
Protect your password and keep it from everyone. If you share your password with family and friends, they may access your account one day in a public place and forget to log off. I have experienced this before while at a college. Someone did not log off from their Yahoo email account and when I went to access my email, I was in their account. Be sure you log off from your Twitter account after you are finished twittering.

5
Change your Twitter password often. Don’t keep the same password for months. It is not wise. Your company makes you change your passwords at least once a month, do the same for your Twitter account.

To change your password on Twitter: Login at http://twitter.com/ and go to Settings. Click on the password tab and put in your current password and new password. You will receive an email notifying you of your change shortly after you change your password.

6
Don’t let Internet Explorer or Firefox remember your password to your Twitter account because if anyone uses your computer, they will be able to log into your account. If you pay to use a service or are using a free service online to remember your passwords, make sure they are reputable.
