iWant’s “Ghosting” Review: A Spookily Good Romance for JM & Fyang

Wow, where do I even begin with “Ghosting“?

I just came home from the Gateway Cinema advanced screening of the upcoming digital series, “Ghosting,” of the new and improved iWant. The digital series is launching the acting careers of JM Ibarra and Fyang Smith.

Initially when I heard of this project, I was happy for JM & Fyang. That finally, after their stint at Pinoy Big Brother, here they are entering the acting department. More than being happy, I was intrigued, and after finally watching the pilot, I can confidently say this series is something special. Oh, by the way, the story follows Jaja, played by the incredibly talented Fyang, a young woman who escapes the hustle and bustle of city life for the tranquility of the countryside. But, as fate would have it, her peaceful vacation takes an unexpected turn when she meets Wilberto, portrayed by the charming and mysterious JM. He’s a local with a secret—a ghostly one, to be exact LOL!

Oh, by the way, the new Gateway Mall is so impressive and beautiful! But that would be another story, haha!

The pilot episode is really good. As I am familiar with my favorite childhood shows like Wansapanataym or Okat Okat (Yes I am that old LOL), they had this wonderful, feel-good vibe. And coincidentally, that perfectly captures the fresh, new feel of the iWant platform. Seriously, if this is a taste of what’s to come from the new iWant experience, then I am glad I subscribed for a year! I’ve been following JM Ibarra and Fyang Smith since PBB, and I truly believe “Ghosting” is the series that will launch their careers to incredible new heights. While they may just be navigating the art of it all, their chemistry is undeniable, and they bring such a genuine, youthful energy to their roles. And may I reiterate, they look natural as if they have been doing this for a long time!

And speaking of talent, I’m glad that this project fell into the hands of Direk Ted Boborol. His previous works, like “Vince & Kath & James” and “Finally Found Someone,” already showcased his knack for heartfelt storytelling. I feel like launching “Ghosting” with a newbie felt like a gamble, with its unique blend of romance and the supernatural, but it’s clearly paid off. He’s managed to pull off something truly unique here, and I’m so impressed with how he’s brought this story to life.

As promised, “Ghosting” delivers a really unique take on romance. It’s not just about the leads; the entire cast is clearly giving it their all, especially in support of JM and Fyang. I honestly think this genre—youthful heartbreak mixed with a feel-good story – is absolutely perfect for them. They navigate the emotional complexities with such grace, despite being the newbie, making every moment feel authentic and relatable. I can’t wait to see the rest of the episodes when they stream on the platform.

Beyond JM and Fyang, the series also gets an admiration from a fantastic supporting cast, including Gello Marquez, Vivoree, Kobie Brown, Zach Guerrero (yet to be seen, Peewee O’Hara, and Ces Quesada. Their performances truly round out the world of “Ghosting” and add so much depth to the narrative. Special mention to Vivoree, who has always been consistently charming in any role she’s in.

I’m so thrilled that “Ghosting” is finally streaming starting tomorrow, July 19th, exclusively on iWant. To JM and Fyang, a huge congratulations! I always knew you two had it in you to pull off something this amazing, and I can’t wait to see where this series takes us.
