Prepare to pig up for a good cause! The National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc. (NatFed) is commemorating National Pig Day in big style by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of pork dishes shown. This delectable performance starts off the five-day Hog Festival, which runs from March 1st to 5th in Cubao and Marikina.
The festival promises a tasty trip through the world of pork. The first three days will be hosted at the Novotel Hotel and Gateway Mall in Araneta City, with a variety of pig delicacies for everyone to enjoy. The grand conclusion on day five will take place at the Marikina Convention Center, with a “Backyard Congress” where industry professionals and aficionados can meet.
“We want to promote the local agricultural sector by encouraging food security, safety, and sovereignty,” says Alfred Ng, Vice Chairman of NatFed. “This festival is also a chance to showcase our rich culinary heritage of pork dishes and boost Philippine tourism.”
Beyond the record attempt and culinary delights, the event hopes to connect hog producers with institutional purchasers such as restaurants and hotels. This would minimize dependency on imported pork, boost the local economy, and establish Quezon City as a food tourist hotspot known for its distinctive and tasty hog dishes.
Local leaders are excited about the initiative. “We applaud the hog farmers for this ambitious project,” says Margie Santos, head of Quezon City’s Business Permits and Licensing Department. “It aligns perfectly with our food security goals by encouraging businesses to consume safe, locally-sourced pork.”
Tetta Tirona, officer-in-charge of the QC Tourism Department, adds, “This initiative not only benefits our city but also the entire local hog industry. Linking producers with institutional markets and promoting Quezon City as a culinary destination will boost our economy and showcase our unique pork dishes.”
Dr. Ana Marie Cabel, head of QC Veterinary Department, emphasizes the importance of food safety. “We’re committed to ensuring all food served during the festival adheres to the highest hygienic standards and handling protocols,” she says.
So, mark your calendars for a truly pork-tastic experience! Join the National Pig Day celebration, savor the diverse flavors of local pork, and support the Philippine hog industry. It’s a win-win for everyone: delicious food, a Guinness World Record attempt, and a boost to the local economy. Don’t miss out!
