Finally the premiere is set this weekend (June 11 at 7pm) for the upcoming Puregold Channel series “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask”. Was very lucky to enjoy and stream the first episode. In the series, TV and online personality Herlene Budol takes on her first-ever starring role as the romantic interest of TV heartthrob and lead actor Joseph Marco.
The first episode of the series introduces us to Herlene Budol’s character, Malta. Malta has not been lucky in love because she sees herself as a “hipon”—or someone blessed with a shapely figure but a plain and homely face, something that the sweet and kind Malta is able to conceal under her facemask.
I actually enjoyed how the first episode already captured my funny bone. Malta’s character is charming enough to get glued to the pilot. Oh by the way in the story Malta works to support her mother, Madam Baby, played by Mickey Ferriols, a struggling vlogger and owner of a sari-sari store.
As the story progresses, we get to understand Sieg played by Joseph Marco. Sieg is hurting from the end of another relationship, and is nursing a broken heart. But they way they introduced Sieg’s character is a treat already. You’ll find out why soon.
More on Marco’s role. I like how the series didn’t portray good looking men as a-hole waiting for true love to turn this character around. It’s refreshing to see stories forming from its own with less complicated background. That is something to look forward in the upcoming episodes.
If there’s another thing that is compelling about the series is that how it effortlessly tells us to root for the underdogs and those who persevere and the series is succeeding in capturing our hearts. Good job.
I can’t wait to see what next episodes will unfold and now I am heavily invested to Malta’s (And Sieg’s) character!
The series is poised to be a certifiable hit. Even in the run-up to its official debut, “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask” has been reaping massive online support—garnering over 1.1 million views within 24 hours of its release on Facebook. Comments have been pouring in from netizens—all over the country—who are looking forward to the show’s premiere.
