I’m sure you probably heard of Capsule hotels concept. When I said Capsule hotels I’m talking about hostels with a number of tiny bed-sized rooms designed like capsule they call them pods. I have been to most kinds of hotel from my personal travels and business trips and I’ve been trying to stay in Capsule hotels. I know it is like sleeping in spaceship pods having control of almost everything in an arms-lengths. Good thing this month I got the chance to visit one here in the Philippines! Yes, you read it right, there is finally one capsule hostels now here in Manila. Today, Let’s talk about Dormitos Hostel.
Located at one of the busiest cities in the Metro, Dormitos Hostel is situated along Harvard Street in Cubao, Quezon City. While it is a typical hotel building outside, Dormitos welcomes us in their receiving area where you will be greeted by their very pleasant receptionists.
Let me just give you a quick tour of what’s inside Dormitos Hotel. Together with Rodel Flordeliz, our excitement got higher when we saw the pods! But before that let me tell you that upon settling in, you will be handed with your own safe and locker keys plus your own personal Pod card and hotel door access.
Here are the galactic inspired pods prepared for everyone, it’s like going to the space, in private like no other!
I was assigned to Pod number 314B. While Rodel chose the second floor haha!
During our stay, Jackie and Cess from Dormitos assisted us and were very accommodating!
It is very neat and quiet especially if no one is around. With a proper lighting along the hall, you can only think of relaxing and having a good rest inside.
Dormitos Hostel also designed the hostel with a very organized lockers. When you get your key cards, it will also correspond to the number of your locker and I find this very helpful and in order!
As they want to maintain cleanliness, they made sure that all of the guests’ shoes have a special rack in front of the lockers.
Do not worry If you have extra big luggage because you can place your luggage in one of the areas.
The shower and the bathroom are neat, something I usually check on every dormitory type accommodations. Thank God to their Hot and Cold Showers!
Let’s talk a look at what’s inside the interesting pods! Welcome aboard! At first I thought I will only experience this in Bangkok or in Tokyo but since there is one now here in the Philippines, I have to try it myself.
As you can see, the interior of the pods inside has mirror and controls below that. This is where you can decide the amount of light, your ventilation, music and even charge your gadgets. This is where you can also insert your key card to activate the pods. Isn’t it exciting???
Safety deposit box is also available!
And did I mention that they have a very high speed internet and 24/7 CCTV and Security? This completes all my basic needs in staying at any hotels.
This first Japanese-style capsule hostel are hosting 100 pods! Sixty (60) of these are dedicated for women which is located at their fifth floor by the way, and forty (40) pods for male at the third floor. Good thing about Dormitos is that, you can only access the floors where you are assigned. The common area at the third floor also is your place to eat, they have a small pantry where you can prepare your food.
Their check in time is at 2pm while check out time is a t 11am. There are total of 9 parking slots as well, available on a first come first serve basis. There is also a laundry shop at the second level and opening soon are probably computer and cafe shops!
The concept of Dormitos Hostel is very promising in such a way that it provides basic overnight accommodation at a very affordable price for guests who do not require or who cannot afford larger, more expensive rooms offered by more conventional hotels. I personally loved my stay!
