(MUSIC) CHARLI XCX Confirms New Single ‘FAMOUS’ Set To Release Through Asylum records

Following the release of her critically-acclaimed, UK Top 20 album SUCKER and UK Top 10 single ‘Doing It’ feat Rita Ora last month, the unstoppable force that is Charli XCX (22-year-old Charlotte Aitchison) is delighted to reveal details of her new single ‘Famous’, set to release on June 1 through Asylum Records.

The official video for ‘Famous’ – a Cyndi Lauper-tinged dancefloor anthem – features as part of this year’s YouTube Music Awards (in association with Vice), which celebrates acts with the biggest growth in views, subscriptions and/or interactions from fans over the last six months. Charli is among a select handful of artists filming exclusive videos for the awards, that’ll also include Ed Sheeran. The video has been directed by the acclaimed actor/director/comedian Eric Wareheim (MGMT, Major Lazer, Beach House) and highlights the juxtaposition between reality and the ever-growing dependence on social media. Charli commented – I love Eric Wareheim and I was so excited when I found out he wanted to work with me. I don’t need to explain the video – just watch it. It’s gross. #internetlyf #yolo #letmetakeaselfie”

Since Charli’s second studio album SUCKER entered the UK charts in February (over 615,000 copies sold worldwide thus far and hit the Top 10 on iTunes in 26 countries upon release), it’s safe to say that she’s become THE UK breakthrough female of the moment and the hottest property in the global pop scene. The album, co-produced by an array of names including Patrick Berger (Lana Del Rey), Ariel Rechtshaid (HAIM) and StarGate (Beyoncé, Rihanna) to name a few, received rave reviews across the board in the UK upon release, with The Times stating that Charli has bought “pop back to its original purpose,” The Observer awarding SUCKER their ‘Album of the Week’ “Charli has chutzpah to burn!”, the NME declaring she had released “this year’s first great pop record” and  The Daily Telegraph saying “every track could be a hit single.”  In the US, the album even went in at #6 in Rolling Stone’s ’50 Best Albums of 2014’
