(MAGAZINE) Esquire Surprised The Nation with #EsquireEheads this September!

September 4 will be marked a shining moment in local pop culture history. Esquire Philippines launched its Travel issue, featuring none other than The Eraserheads on the cover. An exclusive gathering in Dusit Thani Manila treated audiences to the debut of the September issue, as well as the premiere of The Eraserheads’ first new music videos in over a decade. Directed by Erik Matti himself, the videos for Sabado and 1995—two new singles from the band enclosed in every copy of this month’s issue of Esquire—had been most awaited.

Quite a few celebrated personalities were in attendance that night, as the immediate friends of Esquire were most keen of all to witness the issue’s launch. Food and drink editor-at-large and Esquire July cover Erwan Heussaff was among the event’s most buzzed-about guests, along with girlfriend Anne Curtis, of course. Esquire February cover John Lloyd Cruz, April cover Ellen Adarna, actor Benjamin Alves, and actresses Andrea Torres, Beauty Gonzales and Bangs Garcia drew quite a bit of attention themselves. The fashion scene was also well represented throughout the night as Divine Lee, Rajo Laurel, Leeroy New, Pauline Suaco-Juan, and Ben Chan showed up in faultless style. But silver screen stars and red carpet regulars also shared the room with important statesmen and journalists. Senator Bam Aquino, Secretary Alberto Romulo, Atom Araullo, Teddy Boy Locsin, Ricky Carandang, and Ces Drilon were also present to celebrate the grand launch of this month’s issue of Esquire.

Two of Manila’s up-and-coming bands, Ourselves The Elves and Cheats kept the audience bopping and moving, but they could not prepare the crowd for what would happen next. As the newly premiered music videos came to a close, some of the Philippines’ biggest rockstars spontaneously took to the stage to perform The Eraserheads’ songs. Pupil’s Ely Buendia, Sandwich’s Raimund Marasigan, Mike Dizon and Diego Castillo, The Dawn’s Buddy Zabala and Sancho, Markus Highway’s Marcus Adoro, Pedicab’s Diego Mapa, Callilly’s Kean Cipriano, Us-2 Evil-0’s Quark Henares, Stereodeal’s Adrian Arcega, Moonstar88’s Maychelle Baay, and a slew of other OPM icons were up on stage together for an epic performance that left the crowd in roaring unison: “we want more!” No true fan of The Eraserheads—or of local music, for that matter—could walk away from it without feeling profoundly inspired.

Later on in the night, lucky members of the audience were not only able to get copies of the highly sought-after September issue, but also got to have the magazines signed by The Eraserheads themselves—a priceless keepsake to remember a legendary evening. With all that took place, none would doubt that the launch of Esquire’s September issue was an event unlike any other.
