This September in YES! Magazine, get to know more about this generation’s child wonder: Ryzza Mae Dizon.
She started talking at eight months old and grew up to be quite a talker. “Pag nagsalita siya, diretso,” her mother Rizza Dizon recalls.“Pag kinausap mo siya kahit na sandali, nakakasagot siya kaagad. Alam niya kaagad kung ano’ng isasagot sa ’yo. Alam niya kung ano’ng sasabihin.”
Mama Rizza attributes her daughter’s precociousness, or kabibahan, to an obscure practice of eating an unlikely part of a female pig’s body—which her own mother performed to the then-four-month-old Ryzza. “Sabi niya,” Mama Rizza relates what her mother told her, “gagawa ako ng lugaw, ’tapos ipakain mo sa anak mo ’to. Ihahalo ko ’tong ari ng baboy.’ Inihaw niya po ’yon, ’tapos hiniwa po nang maliliit.”
Mama Rizza also recounts her family’s humble beginnings, and how Ryzza’s determination to rise above their hardships pushed the pint-sized dreamer to join contests—from barangay kiddie pageants to Wiltime Bigtime to Little Miss Philippines.
But did you know that Ryzza cried a river when she did not make it to the elimination round of 2012 Little Miss Philippines, and when she finally made it to the grand finals as a wildcard bet, she did not think that she would actually win?
Initially, the people behind Eat Bulaga! didn’t have big plans for the talented tyke. “Parang tinitignan lang namin kung ano ba’ng meron ang batang ito. Pinatabi lang kay Bossing [Vic Sotto], nagpupulot lang ng bola, nagsasalita. Nakakapagsalita, ’tapos ang bilis kumuha ng instructions,” says Jenny Ferre of TAPE, Inc. who has become a mentor to Ryzza.
In only a few months, Ryzza was able to convince her bosses that she could be the next child wonder that they have been trying to groom since the days of Aiza Seguerra. Ryzza was given her own portion and more production numbers in Eat Bulaga!
Then came along The Ryzza Mae Show, which made her the youngest and smallest talk show host around. And now, everybody is in love with Aleng Maliit. The September issue of YES! Magazine also delves into the weight-loss success stories of known personalities.
