Returning to 2nd Avenue this February is the drama series Smash. Now helmed by new showrunner Josh Safran (Gossip Girl), Smash Season 2promises more music and more musical sequences crossing a more eclectic mix of musical genres. Following the struggles of the writers, producers and cast of the musical “Bombshell,” Smash offers a behind the scenes look at the business of Broadway. The show’s acclaimed cast includes Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Megan Hilty and Christian Borle.
Premiering February 7, Thursday at 8PM on 2nd Avenue with a special 2-hour episode, this season we see producer Eileen and writers Julia and Tom back from a successful run in Boston and ready to take on all obstacles to get the show on to Broadway. Karen, who at the end of last season took over the lead role of the show, finds a new friend and mentor in Broadway star Ronnie Moore (guest star Jennifer Hudson). Meanwhile Ivy, depressed due to her dream role being snatched away from her, looks to get back on her feet at any means.
Joining the cast this season of Smash are new characters Jimmy Collins (Jeremy London), a music composer who is working on his own rock musical; Sam Strickland (Leslie Odom Jr.), Tom’s boyfriend and a member of the“Bombshell” chorus; and Ana Vargas (Krysta Rodriguez), Karen’s bubbly new actress roommate. Also set to appear this season as guest stars are Tony-nominee Sean Hayes, Broadway veteran Jesse L. Martin, and the ‘Queen of Broadway,’ Liza Minnelli.
Smash Season 2 premieres February 7, Thursday at 8PM on 2nd Avenue.
