Zia Quizon dominated the 25th Awit Awards together with other PolyEast Records artists Bamboo Manalac and rock band Slapshock who scored big at Glorietta 1 at Ayala Center in Makati on November 27.
With Quizon’s performance that brought down the house that night, our 21-year old acoustic Jazz singer took home her first Awit Awards trophies for Best Female Recording and Best Recording by a New Female Artist.
“Ako Na Lang,” the same song which proclaimed Quizon as one of this generation’s rarest commodity, also won the Song of the Year for songwriter Jungee Marcelo and Quizon’s single “Simple Girl” for Best Engineered Recording for Nikki Cunanan
Both songs culled from Quizons’s self-titled album released by PolyEast Records which also reached its Gold Record status last March 2012. Recently, Quizon is promoting her latest single “So Much In Love” while PolyEast Records announces the release of Quizon’s sophomore album slated 2013.
Bamboo Manalac, another PolyEast Records’ pride, also graced the night with a closing number with his latest single “In this Life” and took the Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist award for his song “Questions.” The former front man released his solo album called “No Water, No Moon” last November 2011 and also produced the songs “Ikot ng Mundo” and “Spin”.
This year’s Best Album Package was also presented to PolyEast’s rap-metal band Slapshock together with Team Manila for the album “Kinse Kalibre”. Slapshock marked the success of their latest release in 15 years with Kinse Kalibre which officially reached its Gold Record status.
Honoring one of OPM’s legendary icons, the late Comedy King Dolphy was also remembered with Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award. PolyEast Records released the album “Handog Ni Pidol: A Lifetime of Music and Laughter” and brought us the late Comedy King’s timeless rendition of the song “Handog”.
Another Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino awardee is folk singer/songwriter Gary Granada, who also released his latest album with PolyEast Records titled “The Essential Gary Granada Collection”.
