FOOD: Café Monsees – Home Of The Best Breads, Cakes And Pastries

Have you heard of DELICIOUS BAKE SHOP along Katipunan? Well, chances are you’ve been seeing MONSEES along the area when you passed by and guessed what, we had a good time and very relaxing, food tripping to the shop as we were invited by Ms. Nana Nadal of nananadal PR and events.

Café Monsees opened around late last year, and initially it only offeres leche plan and fruit cakes as shared by chef Marina Demetrio. They are also one of the good supplier of cakes which they tagged as the labor of Love. Chef Marina are telling us how passionate they were in making single breads. Café Monsees was named after a monsignor friend, who is also one of the incorporators.

CHEF

Marina Demeterio is a lawyer who loves tinkering in the kitchen. She took up Bakery and Pastry Arts at the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (ISCAHM) in 2007 and decided for a career shift. She runs Monsee’s with partners, Chef Bubbles Cruz-Lerias of ISCAHM; banker, coffee connoisseur and food entrepreneur John Escolin; lawyer and law professor, Charles Escolin; and Reverend Monsignor Vicente Bauson.

BreadSTICKS

Café Monsees are known for their breadsticks. Im a big fan of breadsticks so when I saw different flavours they’re offering I was like, whoa! This is the place to be! Breadsticks has different flavour such as Garlic, Cheese, Italian Herb, Pesto, Pistachio, Almond, Choco Hazelnut, Milk & Butter, Wheat, Dill & Cheese, Onion & Sour Cream, Dill and Cheese, Flax Seed, Cheese Pimiento, Basil. Another top seller is the Spanish bread with real butter filling.

But their menu has grown and carries an extensive selection of breads such as Egg & milk pan de sal, Baguette, Ensaymada con Queso de Bola, Whole wheat bread, Raisin bread, Pan de motsi, Pan de coco, among others. They also offer Muffins in various flavors such as double chocolate, blueberry cream, carrot bran, and pear and walnut.

Some of the interesting pastries and other items they have are bakes such as croissant, chicken pot pie, spinach and mushroom pot pie, Danish cheese pockets. Under their cakes and tortes category are the Classic chocolate cake, Brazo de Mercedes, and various cheescakes. Hot dishes are also available such as soup, salads, pasta (made fresh), sandwiches, and even rice meals. Trays of food good for 8 to 10 persons may be ordered in advance.

At the photo (THANK YOU TO ORANGE MAGAZINE) is Pan de Montsi (better than pandesal) and their cupcakes (we tried the Zucchini, Carrot and Chocolate flavors and it’s heavenly!) together with a cup of rich hot chocolate made of real cocoa bar/tablet.
