(TV) All set for The Ultimate Job Interview! The Apprentice Asia! Premieres May 22 on AXN!

I’m a huge fan of US TV Series, US TV reality shows and I even spend my free time watching and catching up on these shows. Take for example some The Apprentice by Donald Trump. Their celebrity seasons are just one of my favorites. And early this month I have heard that an exciting production currently filming in Singapore and Malaysia. Yes, Ive heard that there is an Asian Adaptation of the US reality series! Entitled The Apprentice Asia which will have an Asian premiere on May 22 on AXN!

You know what is more exciting? We have a contingent! Yes there are two (2) Filipino on the race to becoming Asia’s very first Apprentice! Celina and Jonathan! This week I was able to sit with them over lunch they are both happy to share how excited the show was!

Celina recalls she submitted the video almost on the last day of the extended deadline. She said it was really hard to make it on TOP 30. She is a commercial model and now a beverage consultant for a Steak house. She is now managing her own pasta bar here in the Philippines.

When asked about her performance in the show, she said “Its really different from modelling. Doing that you are portraying a character. This show, this is about you. Your integrity, beliefs, values and you cannot afford to play the role. That is why it is a combination of excitement and being yourself.”

Her memorable statement on the show, “I’m a sore loser but I enjoy a good challenge. I pout and even get angry with myself. I grew up being used to winning, and getting what I want.”

Jonathan on the other hand is equally talented and competitive representative with Celina. He is a recepient of numerous awards including the 2012 Mansmith Young Market Masters Award, one of the top seven marketers in the Philippines under the age of 35. He believes that “Asian are the best”. He successfully launched a new phramaceutical brand, achievin market leadership in terms of volume and sales.

AXN has searched the region for the best business entrepreneurs keen to work for Mr. Fernandes. Representing seven countries in the region (Singapore, Malaysia, China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines), the top 12 come from an interesting myriad of backgrounds in entertainment, food & beverage, hospitality, information technology and the legal and finance world. From ages 25 to 38, some are in their first jobs, some already own a thriving business where they are based; some have the gift of the gab from their years in showbiz and some have been recognized for their work in marketing and entrepreneurship in their respective countries.

The Apprentice Asia is another made-in-Asia-for-Asia Original Production next to Amazing Race Asia. The face of the show is aviation tycoon and Forbes Asia’s 2010 ‘Asia Businessman of the Year’, Tony Fernandes, most well-known for turning around Air Asia and breaking even within a year of taking over. Twelve candidates from around Asia will vie for the honor of becoming Asia’s very first Apprentice, with the winner walking away with the opportunity to work for Tony in one of his enterprises.

Fresh from the success of his sold-out birthday concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, teen heartthrob Daniel Padilla is set to invade the big screen once more as he signs an exclusive contract with Star Cinema recently.

After the blockbuster success his first launching film “Must Be Love” with Kathryn Bernardo, Star Cinema is now preparing its follow-up movie. For his part, Daniel is really glad that Star Cinema has a lot of good projects for him. “I am thankful to Star Cinema for trusting in my talents, and also, for believing in Kathryn and mine’s love team,” Daniel added. Apart from “Must Be Love,” Daniel was also part of the success of the movies “24/7 In Love” and “Sisterakas,” one of the highest grossing movies of all time.

KathNiel fans are also excited not only for the upcoming movie but also the phenomenal tandem’s drama series titled “Got to Believe,” which will air on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida this July. Present during the contract signing were Star Creatives head Malou Santos, Star Magic consultant Johnny Manahan, and Daniel’s mother and talent manager, Karla Estrada.

(AWARDS) GMA Network Cites Outstanding 2013 Graduates with Excellence Award

It is in this spirit that the Kapuso Network recognizes the achievements of graduates from select universities who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, technical skill, and academic performance through its CSR program called the GMA Network Excellence Award.

Formerly known as the GMA President’s Medal, the GMA Network Excellence Award is a symbol of excellence that embodies the Network’s values and ideals – integrity, leadership, public service, and responsibility – and is given to outstanding graduates of broadcast-related courses including electronics communications engineering.

According to GMA Network’s Assistant Vice President for Corporate Affairs Ma. Teresa L. Pacis, “The Network hopes to serve as a motivational influence to all graduates to always strive for excellence and challenge them to do outstanding work when they practice their craft.”

From its inception until 2012, the GMA Network Excellence Award has cited a total of 31 students from partner universities namely University of the Philippines (Diliman, Cebu, and Mindanao), Don Bosco Technical College (Mandaluyong), and Angeles University Foundation (Pampanga). GMA Network Excellence Awardees each receive the GMA Excellence Award plaque and P10,000 cash prize.

This year, seven students, all with Latin honors, are added to this roster: Igai Jada P. Andres (Journalism), Trizia S. Terada (Broadcast Communications), and Jestine Mari Sanchez (Communication Research) from UP-Diliman, Cheska Micaela B. Kabiling (Mass Communication) from AUF, Jessica Camille G. Mamaril (Electronics Communications Engineering) from Don Bosco, King Anthony V. Perez (Mass Communication) from UP-Cebu, and Alethea Louise D. Gamalong (Communication Arts) from UP-Mindanao.

The GMA Network Excellence Award has been conferred to deserving graduates in Manila since 2001. In school year 2009-2010, the Award was introduced in the Visayas Region through UP-Cebu. In 2011, a merit award was then given to a graduate of the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan. Last year, a special edition of the Award was also given to a student of Adamson University, in commemoration of its 80^th Foundation Day. This 2013, the Award was launched in the Mindanao region through UP-Mindanao.

The Award has also been extended to the finalists of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) – NCR since 2012. This year’s recipient of the GMA Network Excellence Award Special Edition is Gianina Joy Nathania L. Napo a Mass Communication graduate of the Far Eastern University.

Spearheaded by the RFM Foundation, TOSP is a formation program that seeks graduating college students who have excelled academically, manifested exemplary leadership, and dedicated themselves in the service of their communities throughout their college life, all founded on strong moral values of integrity, patriotism, and selfless service.

The awardees of the GMA Network Excellence Award underwent a panel interview with select GMA Network personalities and officers and are chosen based on scholastic achievement, relevance of related works, and leadership skills.

Some awardees and finalists are now working in GMA Network, in various capacities. Among them are GMA News reporters Dano Tingcungco, Jam Sesante, Micaela Papa, GMA News Online reporter Kimberly Jane Tan, Saksi segment producer Sophia Balod, and GMA Cebu sales producer Rachel Sindo.

(MOVIE) Angry Birds Feature Film Nests at Sony Pictures, Animated 3D Comedy Slated For July 1, 2016

Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the eagerly anticipated Angry Birds animated film, making it one of the most high-profile deals of the year. The 3D film is being developed, produced, and financed by Rovio Entertainment and will be released worldwide by Sony Pictures on July 1, 2016. Several major studios pursued the global film rights in recent weeks, with Sony Pictures Entertainment emerging as the winner.

Michael Lynton, Chairman & CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal, Co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment jointly announced their partnership today. John Cohen and David Maisel – producer of Despicable Me and executive producer of Iron Man, respectively – are both on board for the new Angry Birds feature film. Cohen will serve as producer and Maisel is executive producer.

Commenting on the announcement, Mikael Hed said, “Sony impressed us with their great attitude, determination, and professionalism. They convinced us that we have found the right partners and team to help us market and distribute our first motion picture. Michael, Amy, Jeff Blake, Sony’s marketing and distribution head, and their teams will be the best possible collaborators as we get set to take our franchise to the next level.”

Lynton and Pascal said, “Every studio in town would love to add Angry Birds to their slate. There are few titles out there that bring this kind of excitement, brand awareness and built-in audience to the table. We’re thrilled to be distributing this film and we hope this is just the beginning of what will be a long relationship with Rovio as we look for ways to work on future projects together.”

David Maisel and John Cohen said, “We are very excited to join with Sony Pictures in presenting this movie to the world in 2016 and we will have many more announcements as we begin production in the coming months.”

Angry Birds is one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises, starting in 2009 with the original mobile game that remains the number one paid app of all time. Angry Birds has expanded rapidly into entertainment, publishing, and licensing to become a beloved international brand.

Angry Birds has been praised for its great value and simple, casual gameplay. Players use a slingshot to launch birds at green pigs in an attempt to get their eggs back, with the game setting the model for what is possible in terms of game development and commercial success. To date, the Angry Birds and Bad Piggies games have been downloaded more than 1.7 billion times across platforms and versions.

The upcoming movie marks Rovio Entertainment’s first foray into feature films, although fans have already been introduced to the Angry Birds world with the weekly Angry Birds Toons animated series. The race to the grand finals finally begins as ABS-CBN’s biggest and grandest talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” kicks off its semi-finals round this Saturday (May 18) where the top 12 semi-finalists will compete in an intense live talent showdown to take one of six grand finalist slots. Expect leveled up performances and leveled judges power as the Big Three judges Kris Aquino, Ai Ai Delas Alas, and Freddie “FMG” Garcia will now choose two acts to make it to the grand finals.

The act voted by viewers via text and online will again automatically take a grand finalist slot while the judges pick their top two bets among the acts that will rank 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th in the nationwide votes.

First up to compete this week are quick mask artist Tito Cris Castro, twin dance group Symmetry, unconventional acoustic band Mp3, YouTube sensation Roel Manlangit, flairtender Chaeremon Basa, and black light dancers Zilent Overload. Just recently, folk dancers Bughaw Folkloric Dance Group and car drifters Lateral Drift Productions completed the roster of semi-finalists during the 6^th and last quarterfinal match. This Sunday on “Goin’ Bulilit,” Bugoy Cariño impersonates teen heartthrob Daniel Padilla as he performs his rendition of Daniel’s song “Nasa ‘Yo Na Ang Lahat.”

The wacky kids also present sketches inspired by the Santacruzan which is a favorite tradition this merry month of May. The Goin’ Bulilit kids also give their take on Macky Becky’s trending Gwiyomi video on Youtube in the segment “Palusot ‘Pag Nahuli Ka Ng Tatay Mong Naka-wig.“

There are also “Away-bati sa Buffet” gags wherein the kids poke fun at fiesta banquets. As always, the kids tickle the funny bones in the regular segments “Ooh Eew,” and “Ang Korni.”

ABS-CBN’s longest running drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya” will share this Saturday (May 18) the inspiring life story of Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot. One of the most promising Kapamilya actors Martin Del Rosario will portray the role of Kevin.

Being the only boy in the children of three, Kevin tried to hide his real identity and fulfill his father’s dream for him to become an engineer.
